Texas trooper karate kicks suspect off his motorcycle after long high-speed chase
  • 9 years ago
An investigation into outdated police tactics led Texas Department of Public Safety to release this video of a trooper karate kicking a suspect following a high speed police chase.

The incident happened in 2012, but came to light this week after the video was released as part of an investigative report by the Austin American Statesman newspaper staff.

Trooper Abraham Martinez jumped into the air and kicked a surrendering Steven Gaydos off of his bike following a high-speed chase in Houston in December 2012.

Gaydos ran a stop sign and claims he fled from officers because his driver's license was suspended.

When Gaydos eventually pulled over, Martinez karate kicked him off his bike and was subsequently suspended for three days.

According to the newspaper's reports, Martinez shot at Gaydos four times , striking him in the leg.
