Animals accidents: dumb dog found impaled by tree branch - TomoNews

A male Staffordshire terrier was found impaled by a tree branch this weekend on Wadmalaw Island in South Carolina.

According to reports, it spent 24 hours dangling 15 feet up in the air.

It's not really clear how the dog got up there, but it's likely he chased an animal up the tree and slipped.

A man nearby heard incessant barking and followed the sound until he found the dog.

The man called Charleston County Animal Control officers, who carried the dog away on a stretcher. Fortunately, the tree limb didn't enter the wall of its stomach or puncture its intestines. The dog, however, is in critical guarded condition.

"This was a close call for this pet," Charleston Animal Society Senior Director of Veterinary Care Lucy Fuller was quoted by CBS News as saying. "And we are doing everything possible to save him."
