Public breastfeeding shame: Dentist assistant humiliates mom for breastfeeding infant - TomoNews

An Alabama woman was left humiliated and in tears after an employee at a dentist office told her she cannot breastfeed her son inside the office. The nurse then took her infant son from her arms without seeking permission.
Tayler Buzbee called Aspen Dental early Friday morning to book an appointment for a toothache. She was told the only available appointment was in 20 minutes. Buzbee couldn't find a babysitter for her 9-month-old son in time, and was told by employees that it was alright for her to bring him.
Halfway through the treatment, her son began to make a fuss and Buzbee decided to breastfeed him for the first time in public.
"He started getting a little fussy," she told AL.com. "I don't nurse in public, and I never have because I hear these stories about people being shamed... I don't do well with being confronted, so I usually find another room to go to."
However, when the dentist and an assistant came in, the assistant told Buzbee she could not breastfeed inside the office, and took the baby right from her arms without asking, and put him in a stroller as he was 'in the way.'
Buzbee said she had never felt this humiliated.
"I was put in a situation where my son comes first," she said. "I was doing what my son needed. If he's hungry, I'm going to feed him."
Aspen Dental has since apologized to Buzbee, and is looking into the incident.
"We at Aspen Dental Management, Inc., and the Aspen Dental practices we take this matter very seriously," Kasey Pickett, the company's director of communications said in an email.
