Italy's Europe minister: 'Bold measures' needed to dismantle human trafficking

At least 1,700 would-be migrants have died in the Mediterranean since the beginning of this year. The Italian government describes the people smugglers behind their deaths as "slave traders of the 21st century". Can the European Union find a common policy to help those migrants who want to come to Europe? Christophe Robeet puts the question to Sandro Gozi, the Italian Minister for European Affairs.
"Together, we have to take tough and bold measures to dismantle the traffic of human beings", Sandro Gozi says. "We cannot leave these people, who are fleeing war, persecution or famine, in the hands of this new kind of slavery of the 21st century. This is a crime against humanity the traffickers are committing every day, a few kilometres away from the European coast".
