South Africa: Families of slain Marikana miners still demanding justice
- 9 years ago
On August 16th, 2012 at Nkaneng Hill in South Africa, striking miners demanded a pay rise. Unable to control the situation, the police opened fire, killing 34 in the worst violence in the country since the end of apartheid. A board of inquiry was set up to establish what happened, but its conclusions have yet to be made public and the victims’ families are still waiting for justice. Our reporters have been back to Nkaneng Hill, now known as the hill of horror.
