Colombians Criticize Increased Military Spending

Despite the progress in the peace talks currently underway in Havana, Colombia's military and security spending continue to grow. In fact, such budget spending increased 52%, and as a percentage of GDP, is twice is high as the Latin American average. The government spends 8.5 times more on the military than on health care and three times more than on education. Many Colombians feel this increased military and security spending is not consistent with the efforts to achieve peace or the country's needs. Protests were held in Colombia to coincide with the Global Day of Action on Military Spending. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota. teleSUR
