Second US Ebola case confirmed: Texas health worker contracts Ebola

A Texas healthcare worker who treated Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan at a Dallas hospital has tested positive for the virus.

The healthcare worker treated the dead Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan after his second visit to the emergency room on September 28, the Washington Post reported. She was wearing a gown, gloves, mask and a protective face shield, in line with CDC precautions.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the worker was considered to be at low risk of contracting the disease but was among the 18 hospital staff members who had been requested to conduct temperature checks twice a day.

On Friday night, she discovered that she had developed a low-grade fever during her routine daily temperature checks and was admitted to the hospital and put in isolation within 90 minutes of the fever check.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they had interviewed the infected healthcare worker but could not identify the specific breach that caused the spread of the virus, NBC news reported.

The CDC also said it is possible that more people in the U.S. may contract Ebola, the Wall Street Journal reported.
