Hand ripped off in freak washing machine accident at Cincinnati laundry

A man’s hand was ripped off by a front-loading washing machine at Andy’s Coin Laundry on Vine Street in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Witnesses told police the victim was injured when he reached into a front-loading washing machine to untangle a comforter. The machine then started spinning and twisted the man’s wrist which was entwined in the blanket.
The machine ripped his hand off, leaving it dangling by the skin with the bone sticking out. One bystander called 911 while another rushed to stop the bleeding with a shirt from the victim’s laundry.
"There's a guy, he just took his clothes out of dryer, out of the washer ... it wringed up his arm and his arm is broken, and his hand is hanging off, the bone is sticking out. Please, hurry up and send someone, please,” said the woman who called 911.
Paramedics arrived and provided a proper tourniquet for the victim to be transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. It’s not yet known if doctors will be able to reattached the man's hand.
When WCPO reporters checked out the laundromat later that night, none of the machines were marked “out of order.”
