Maryland plane-helicopter crash: 3 killed, 2 injured

Three people were killed after an aircraft collided in mid air with a helicopter in Frederick, Maryland on Thursday afternoon.

The plane involved was a 2006 single engine Cirrus SR22, which was travelling from Cleveland, Tennessee to Frederick, Maryland, WUSA 9 reported.

It collided with a Robinson R44 helicopter in mid air, near the Frederick Municipal Airport at around 3:40 p.m. The helicopter was taking part in a training exercise when the accident occurred.

The airplane deployed a parachute that helped it to descend into a cluster of trees while while the helicopter broke into pieces after hitting the ground, killing all three people onboard, as reported by the Frederick News-Post.

The two occupants of the airplane were transported to hospital by ambulance.
