High school shooting: Washington teen gunman Jaylen Fryberg lured victims by text message

The high school gunman in Washington state who shot five teens last Friday lured his victims — all friends — by inviting them to lunch by text message, investigators said.
Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary said at a press conference on Monday that the 15-year-old shooter, Jaylen Fryberg, shot all five students at a table in the Marysville-Pilchuck High School cafeteria with a .40-caliber Beretta, killing two girls and injuring three other students, two of whom are still in critical condition, before turning the gun on himself.
Freshman Bella Panjeli told Reuters that a possible motive for Fryberg’s actions may have been a love triangle between himself and two of his victims, Zoe Galasso and his cousin, Andrew Fryberg.
“I heard he asked her out and she rebuffed him and was with his cousin,” Panjeli told the CBC while citing a conversation with one of the victim’s family and friends. “It was a fight over a girl.”
Galasso died at the scene, while another friend, Gia Soriano, died in the hospital on Sunday. Shaylee Chuckulnaskit and Andrew Fryberg remain in critical condition. Nate Hatch, a distant cousin of Fryberg’s, has been upgraded to stable condition.
