Police officer killed: cop murder suspects tend to be white and armed

Of the 39 police officers killed in the line of duty this year, 36 were killed by firearms and 21 of the perpetrators are white.

When it comes to cop killers, white criminals appear to be over-represented. They are suspected in nearly 51% of police officer deaths this year, though whites are an estimated 38% of the incarcerated population.

Nine of the suspected cop killers appear to be Hispanic and nine appear to be black. There was at least one Asian and the race of the other three suspects couldn’t be determined.

We caution that this analysis isn’t exact. TomoNews looked up news reports of cops killed on the job and determined that 39 officers have been murdered this year. We then looked at mugshot photos of the suspects to determine their race.

What we found was that most of the cops were murdered by armed criminals, and most of the suspects were white.

Just one police officer was killed in a fistfight. Army soldier Devon Huerta, who was assigned to Fort Bliss in Texas, allegedly killed constable Robert White after punching him in the face on Halloween.

Los Angeles police officer Roberto Sanchez was killed after a suspect attempting to flee apprehension rammed his SUV into Sanchez’s cruiser.

And there was one case of a cop getting killed by his own gun. Deranged MRI technician James Clark had a mental breakdown at work and got the jump on the responding officer, David Smith.

Of the 41 suspects we looked at, we found that 21 of the suspects appear to be white. Suspects such as white supremacists Jerad and Amanda Miller, who ambushed police officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo as they ate.

Or teen killers Brandon Goode and Alexandria Hollinghurst, who ambushed police officer Robert German in Florida before taking their own lives.

Or Eric Frein, who ambushed two cops -- killing Bryon Dickson and wounding another -- and then eluded pursuing officers for nearly two months.
