Triple murder case: Police finally arrest suspects after high-speed chase, sheriff’s deputy shooting

An Adams County sheriff’s deputy was shot Friday evening while attempting to arrest Furmen Lee Leyba, a wanted suspect in a recent triple homicide.

The homicide occurred Wednesday morning in a home on Cragmore Street in Adams County, Co. Leyba was one of two suspects wanted by police in connection to the murders.

The other suspect, Gabriel Flores, 41, was arrested late Friday afternoon after a high-speed police chase in Jefferson County.

“The male was treated at an area hospital and is now in the custody of the Adams County Sheriff’s office,” a spokesperson for the Adams County Sheriff’s office stated in a press release.

Few details of the homicide, the car chase and the shooting of the deputy have been released, partly because the events all took place in different counties. Spokespeople from the involved police departments and sheriffs offices have deflected most questions about the case.

“That’s an Adams County case,” the Denver Police Department tweeted of Gabriel Flores’s wanted status, even though he was arrested within Denver city limits. “They’ll be able to give you information.”

But the Adams County Sheriff’s office is releasing little information about the incident. They have yet to release the name of the shooter in Friday evening’s arrest.

Rumors have circulated that another officer shot the unidentified deputy. One deputy has reportedly been placed on paid leave, a typical response when a deputy shoots someone.

The two suspects in the triple homicide, Flores and Leyba, both have an extensive criminal record. They have been arrested more than 20 times each since 2002, according to reports.

The identities of the homicide victims have not been released, but an initial press release stated all three victims were males.
