Islamic State in America: FBI warns of possible Islamic State attack on Memphis & Arkansas Bridge

The FBI has warned Memphis police that it received an “unspecific tip” from an anonymous informant that Islamic State planned to blow up a bridge connecting Tennessee and Arkansas time this month.

According to a Reuters report, the threat was so vague it was not clear whether the target was the Memphis & Arkansas Bridge on I-55 or the Hernando DeSoto Bridge on I-40.

However, Fox 13 News in Memphis said it had obtained an FBI bulletin listing the target as the I-55 bridge.

Fox 13 News said the anonymous informant told authorities that an Islamic State agent had been instructed “to blow up the Memphis-Arkansas bridge on an unknown date, activating ISIS terror cells in the United States.”

Memphis police officers are patrolling the area near the I-55 bridge, and the department’s Real Time Crime Center is monitoring the bridge with surveillance cameras 24 hours a day.

The FBI said the threat was not substantiated and was not backed by actual intelligence.
