Concealed carry defense: teen Jawaad Jabar killed stealing Air Jordan sneakers in Dayton, Ohio

16 year old Jawaad Jabbar is described as a “nice guy” and “dedicated student athlete”
But the Middletown, Ohio teen seemed to go against these superlatives when he tried to rob a man for his freshly bought pair of Air Jordans in Dayton.
Jabbar and his buddies trekked north to Dayton Mall to buy a pair of Air Jordans but arrived too late to purchase them. At some point the goal shifted from buying the new sneakers to just taking them from someone.
The teens approached a man and his friend outside in the parking area. Jabbar pulled a handgun on the men, likely expecting complete compliance. Unfortunately for him, that man was licensed to carry a concealed weapon. Jabbar was fatally shot. Police and paramedics responded within minutes to the scene.
In a later press conference, Sgt. Phares called this “a random act of ‘I want something that person has and I’m going to take it from them by any means’.” Even so, the town of Middletown is mourning the loss of a teen who seemed to be an otherwise good kid.
No charges have been filed against the shooter, who remains anonymous.
