Drone rescue: Dutch geek makes epic leap into freezing canal to save $600 DJI Phantom 2

Would you dive into a freezing canal to save your brand new $600 Xmas present drone?

Well that’s exactly what Dutchman Zwier Spanjer did when the batteries ran out on his DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter as he was flying it high above Amsterdam - and it was all caught on the device’s camera

The video shows the expensive toy hovering above the fertile Netherlands when it begins to drift downwards, perilously heading toward a canal.

Determined not to let his drone end up in a watery grave you can see Zwier make a dash for it.

He runs toward the drone and then bravely dives into the chest high water.

Then just when you think he’s too late, he stretches out an arm and plucks it to safety.
