More than 20 people, including seven or eight foreigners are missing after a tug boat sank in the Yangtze River in China’s Jiangsu Province on Thursday.

The tug was carrying 24 to 25 people, including the owner and several engineers - mixture of Singaporean, Indian, Japanese and French nationals. The boat sank on Thursday afternoon while being tested in the Fubei Channel on the Yangtze River, Xinhua News reported.

A survivor told Xinhua news that he and a Japanese engineer were in the cabin when the boat suddenly began to list and water immediately began to pour in. He survived by holding on to a hydraulic pump. He said he was holding the Japanese engineer for a moment but the strong currents separated them as the boat started sinking.

Only three people have been rescued and more than 20 are still missing, Xinhua News reported. Twenty-three vessels have been deployed to search for the missing people.
