Sex with flight attendant: Japanese stewardesses charge pilots for sex to fight low wages

An unnamed flight attendant recently told Japan’s Shukan Post magazine that Japanese stewardesses are turning to prostitution to combat wage decreases.
According to Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the average annual wage of a stewardess fell from 4.98 million yen, or about $42,000, to 3.91 million Yen, or about $33,000, between 2004 and 2013.
She told the magazine she heard rumors of a “prostitution circle” that started several years before she joined her airline in 2007.
“Girls willing to do it with a pilot passed their number to a person who was effectively a female pimp,” she said. “I heard that the going rate was between 50,000 and 80,000 yen per session.”
The ringleader of the “prostitution circle” was fired by the airline. “But since the girls in the circle at the time are still employed at the company, I’m sure it still goes on even now,” the flight attendant said.
Another unnamed stewardess told the magazine that during pre-flight checks, stewardesses line up in front in front of the pilot and copilot. The pilots drop hand signals. Four digits raised to the nose, for example, means 40,000 yen for an overnight stay at a hotel.
However, a stewardess’s value diminishes substantially after the age of 30.
According to the Shukan Post, other air stewardesses work part-time in Tokyo’s luxurious Ginza district as party companions or bar hostesses.
