Taiwan plane crash: Black box of TransAsia plane found, death toll climbs to 25

The black box of the TransAsia Airways flight that crashed into a river in Taipei, Taiwan on Wednesday morning has been found. The death-toll has risen to 25, and 16 people are still missing.

The ill-fated TransAsia Airways flight had five crew members, 22 Taiwanese passengers and 31 Chinese passengers on board.

The ATR-72-600 turboprop plane took off from Taipei Songshan Airport on Wednesday morning and crashed just minutes later into the Keelung River.

Authorities said the plane entered the water nose-first, leading to the belief that most of those trapped were seated in the front rows.

Some 1,000 soldiers, firemen and police experts were dispatched to assist in the rescue operation. An M3 amphibious rig and speedboats were also deployed.

This is the second TransAsia plane crash in seven months. In July last year, 48 people were killed when TransAsia flight GE222 crashed in Taiwan’s outlying island of Penghu.
