Ghost in the Machine: Drug dealer’s burner phone rings at trial, 9 months after arrest

While court was in session for a drug case in Keelung City, someone’s phone started ringing. The judge angrily demanded to know who had failed to shut off their phone.

After a few minutes of confusion the prosecutor realized it was the Nokia phone being held in evidence.

The phone had been in evidence for 9 months and hadn’t been re-charged in ages.

The prosecutor joked that thankfully they were only prosecuting a drug case and not a homicide case.

Who thought the battery could last nine months and still retain a charge?

Somebody tell Nokia that burners should self destruct, not ring the popo with fresh evidence 9 months later.
