Gas explosion destroys New Jersey house, video captured by police dashcam

A powerful blast caused by a gas explosions utterly destroyed a New Jersey home undergoing renovations on February 24. A nearby police cruiser captured the frightening moment with it's onboard camera.

The blast, which tore through 59 Oak Avenue, Stafford Township at 10.32 a.m., critically injured two New Jersey Natural Gas employees on site at the time. The pair were airlifted to a nearby hospital, New York Daily News reports. Five of their colleagues were also injured, along with six firefighters and two paramedics.

Workers responded to a 9.30 a.m. call reporting a gas leak at the property, prompting the homes of 75 neighboring residents to be evacuated.

"It happened so quickly, the explosion," Stafford Township volunteer fire chief Jack Johnson told The SandPaper.net. "We had debris all around us. It came from nowhere. (I was thinking) 'What the hell just happened?"

"The house has been disintegrated," Stafford Township Mayor John Spodofora told NBC Philadelphia.

Police Chief Thomas Dellane told the New York Daily News only the structure's basement remains intact. The blast badly damaged three neighboring houses.
