Jerusalem car attack: Palestinian Udaayi Salayma rams into Israeli policewomen on Purim

A Palestinian man rammed his car into a group of pedestrians in Jerusalem, injuring at least at least five people before he crashed his car and attempted to stab people with a knife before he was shot by Israeli security forces.

On Friday morning, the suspect drove his car onto a curb next to a border police station, hitting three border policewomen.

He then continued down the road for about 300 metres until he reached a light rail station, where he rammed into another border policewoman and a civilian on a bicycle.

After crashing his car, he got out and tried to stab a passerby with a knife before he was shot and wounded by a Border Guard.

The attack took place on the Jewish holiday of Purim, at the same Border Police base in northern Jerusalem on Shimon HaTzadik street that was the site of a similar attack on November 5 that killed one border police officer and injured 13 others.

According to Ynet News, the suspect has been identified as Udaayi Salayma, a man in his early 20s from Ras al-Amud in East Jerusalem. Hamas praised the attack, which Israeli authorities are treating as a terror attack.
