Robert Durst confesses to killing 3 people on HBO documentary, The Jinx

Robert Durst, a son of one of New York's wealthiest real estate families, was arrested on Saturday in New Orleans after new evidence linking him to the possible slaying of his friend, Susan Berman, in 2000 came to light.

Durst first came to media attention when his wife, Kathleen McCormack, mysteriously disappeared following an argument the two had on January 31, 1982. According to Durst, McCormack got on a train heading to their upper West Side apartment, and was never seen again. Durst filed a missing person's report five days later.

Then in 2000, police planned on interviewing Durst's longtime friend, Susan Berman, to ask her about the disappearance of McCormack. But before they could do so, Berman was found shot dead execution-style in her home in Los Angeles after police received an anonymous letter directing them to her body. Later, in a six-part documentary produced by HBO, Durst confessed he wrote the address on the envelope, but says he did not send the note to police.

In September 2001, body parts belonging to Durst's neighbor, Morris Black, surfaced in plastic garbage bags in Galveston Bay, Texas, along with a saw, a carving knife and some mail addressing to Dorothy Ciner, the mute woman Durst disguised himself as.

Police found Black's blood and more garbage bags in Durst's apartment and arrested him, setting the bond at $30,000. However, Durst skipped bail and remained on the run for six weeks until police arrested him for shoplifting Band-aids and a chicken sandwich in Pennsylvania.

Police found two loaded guns, marijuana, almost $40,000 in cash and Morris Black's driver's license in Durst's rental car.

Durst confessed to killing Black but was acquitted of murder after he claimed he killed Black in self-defense while trying to wrestle a gun away from him.

On the final episode of HBO documentary, Durst seemingly made a confession while in the bathroom that he 'killed them all' with a microphone he wore during filming, not knowing the microphone was still recording.

FBI agents arrested Durst at a hotel in New Orleans where he was staying under a false name with a fake drivers license.

Durst's younger brother Douglas issued a statement on Sunday, shortly after his brother's arraignment saying: "We are relieved and also grateful to everyone who assisted in the arrest of Robert Durst. We hope he will finally be held accountable for all he has done."
