Shocking power saw murder: Grandmother uses saw, pipe wrench and sock to brutally kill infant

A 52-year-old Chicago-area woman was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday for the shocking death of her 7-month-old granddaughter.

52-year-old Manuela Rodriguez reportedly used a power saw to cut the baby’s throat in an attempt to silence the crying infant. An autopsy revealed she may have also beaten the child with a pipe-wrench and asphyxiated her with a sock.

Following the alleged murder, Rodriguez, who was on antidepressants, attempted to take her own life, but was later discovered alive by a family member.

She was rushed to nearby hospital, treated for self-inflicted wounds and is now in police custody.
