Fatal accident: Woman crushed to death under 20 tons of gravel in freak accident in California

Lindsey Combs, 32, was fatally crushed by a gravel truck in her California home driveway Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred when Combs was asked to move her car for a city sidewalk restoration project. However, while still inside the car, the bed of a truck began raising its 20-ton load of gravel. Something then went wrong and the tray toppled over, directly onto Combs' car while she was still inside.

According to family members, Combs' 4-year-old daughter ran out and witnessed the accident. Construction workers rushed to Combs' aid and attempted to dig her out by hand, but it was too late.

"I saw the truck laying on the car and they were working on the sidewalk, trying to get her out of the car and told them to get the backhoe, ripped the door off and that's when the cops pulled up, took her pulse and determined she was dead." said neighbor Travis Hagerthy to CBS News.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is launching an investigation on the accident.

Combs is survived by a 4-year-old daughter and a grieving fiancee.
