Lost at sea for 66 days, missing man found off North Carolina's Cape Hatteras

Weeks after the Coast Guard called off the search for Louis Jordan, a container ship found the missing South Carolina man on Thursday. Jordan’s family reported him missing at sea more than two months ago.

Louis Jordan left Bucksport Plantation Marina in South Carolina on January 23 for a solo fishing trip. According to Jordan’s father, Jordan was not an experienced sailor and the January trip was his first time out at sea. Jordan’s single-masted sailboat experienced problems and capsized. Jordan survived for the next sixty-six days by eating raw fish and drinking rainwater.

A passing German container ship, the Houston Express, spotted Jordan 200 miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The container brought Jordan aboard on Thursday afternoon.

Jordan, who had a minor shoulder injury, was flown by a Coast Guard helicopter to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia after his rescue.
