Kenya university attack: masked gunmen storm Garissa University College, students trapped
  • 9 years ago
Masked gunmen have launched a deadly attack at a university in eastern Kenya on Thursday, reportedly taking an unknown number of students and teachers hostage inside the campus.

At least five masked gunmen attacked the Garissa University College in Kenya as students were doing morning prayers at the college mosque, Standard Media reported.

“They surrounded the mosque ... we don't know why they were surrounding the mosque,” Robert Alai Onyango, a blogger in Nairobi told CNN.

The gunmen opened fire at worshippers indiscriminately, according to the BBC and Standard Media.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, it is suspected that Somali al-Shabaab militants are behind the attack, according to the BBC.
