Michael Juskin, 100, axes wife in alleged murder-suicide

A 100-year-old New Jersey man could be one of the oldest murderers in American history after he allegedly cut down his sleeping wife with an ax on Sunday. The man then killed himself in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide.

Michael Juskin killed his 88-year-old wife Rosalia with an ax as she slept in bed on the first floor of their Elmwood Park, N.J., home, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said.

What caused the deadly attack remains under investigation, but Molinelli said there is a "history of domestic issues" between the couple.

Family said Michael Juskin suffered from dementia.

"Sometimes he was lucid and sometimes he wasn't," one family member told The Record.

Police officers found the couple, who also lived part-time in Gulfport, Fla., after a relative checking in on them discovered the gruesome scene.

The 88-year-old woman was found in bed while Michael Juskin reportedly killed himself with a knife in the bathroom.

Neighbors told The Record that they often saw the couple out and about — Michael Juskin walking a dog and his wife tending to her garden — but said they kept to themselves.

Barbara Szczecina, 65, who lives down the block, said she saw Rosalia sitting on her front porch around 10 a.m. Saturday.

"She used to be in her garden all the time," Szczecina said. "They were always together, putzing around outside."Neighbors told The Record that they often saw the couple out and about — Michael Juskin walking a dog and his wife tending to her garden — but said they kept to themselves.
