Cultura Latina – Jams, spices and comic books

Follow the music, admire the art, place yourself inside historic architecture, in Telesur's "Cultura Latina". In this week's program, host Mauricio Izquierdo takes us on a visit to a women’s gastronomic cooperative in Ecuador, and then on to Argentina’s very first comic book club. At the Warmi restaurant and coffee shop in downtown Quito, we tasted savory, organic food prepared by a collective of five women. The women specialize in jams and spices, and their goal is to make healthy, pesticide-free food available to all income groups. They like to talk to the people who come in about what is good to eat, and why. In Argentina, there’s a long tradition of comic books, but few stores that specialize in them. The Club del Comic, or Comic Club, founded by collectors in 1987, began as a library inside another store. This art form attracted many fans, especially young people, and the library soon became a full fledged store that not only sells comic books, but also t-shirts and figurines of favorite characters. teleSUR
