Since I mention oils so much, I figured I'd make a video about my top 5 oils and why I use them, I hope you like it! My favourite way to use oil as a moisturizer is to steam my cleansed face in the shower with warm water, apply a small amount (a little bit goes a long way) of oil on my face and neck, then dab my face with a dry towel when I get out and go to bed! This way, you can get your whole face and neck without worrying about getting oil everywhere. When I'm in the shower I also throw some oil on my elbows, knees and anywhere else that can get dry =].
Remember guys, what works for me may not work for you, natural skincare involves a great deal of experimentation!
I have oily and acne prone skin, and I get optimal results when I eat a clean diet. Quality of food eaten doesn't affect some people's skin but it really affects mine (I break out when I eat a lot of processed foods).
1. Avocado oil Uses: acne scars, oil cleansing method, daily facial moisturizer 2. Macadamia nut oil Uses: conditioner for the tips of my hair, makeup remover, facial moisturizer 3. Hazelnut oil Uses: shaving gel, oil cleansing method, facial moisturizer 4. Red Palm Oil Uses: Once a week night cream, masks (beware the carotenes, the colour is very orange) 5. Coconut Oil Uses: Once a week or biweekly masks and treatments, eyelash treatment
I used to strip my oily skin every day with generic cleansers, and my skin would produce even more oil to combat the dramatic loss. Now that I moisturize with oil, my skin produces less oil and always feels balanced. I used oil-free acne products for a good chunk of my life, what a mistake!
Storage: Avocado, macadamia and hazelnut stay under my bathroom sink which is a cool and dark place. Coconut and red palm stay in my kitchen pantry. I don't refrigerate any of them =]
