UN Orders 10,000 Refugee Shelters From IKEA

In order to help provide housing to refugees around the world, the United Nations has ordered 10,000 shelters from IKEA.

War and other hardships force people around the globe to leave their homes behind. Now, IKEA is helping provide shelter for them.

The United Nations recently ordered 10,000 refugee shelters from the Swedish furniture maker. 

Known as a "Better Shelter," the design of the product was a joint effort between the IKEA Foundation and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. 

The IKEA Foundation focuses on issues in third world countries. 

The 188 square foot shelters arrive unassembled in two large cardboard boxes and don't require special tools for building. It takes approximately four hours for a group of four people to assemble one. 

Five people can be housed comfortably within the structures, which are said to last around three years. They feature a locking door, windows and a rooftop solar panel which
