Mexico: High numbers of feminicides raises alarm bells

In Mexico, women's and human rights organizations are once again raising alarm bells over the ongoing phenomenon of feminicides. Each year around 300 women are killed, mainly by their husbands or partners, but impunity is common and the absence of a gender perspective in dealing with such cases makes it difficult for justice to be achieved. This week the country's Supreme Court will hear the case of Mariana Buendía, whose death authorities classified as a suicide although her family members feel she was killed by her husband, a police officer. Human rights advocates and family members of the victims demand that all cases by thoroughly and impartially investigated. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico City. teleSUR
