‘Keepsake’ Ultrasounds Continue To Grow Despite FDA Warnings

Despite multiple FDA warnings against the use of non-medical ultrasounds, pregnant women continue to visit commercial businesses offering the scans in order to get 3-D images of their babies as a keepsake.

Three-dimensional ultrasound images of unborn babies have gotten so high quality that they’re encouraging a practice the FDA has been warning against for years. 

Women are spending hundreds of dollars for “keepsake” ultrasounds, which are non-medical scans done to get fetal pictures and video as mementos. 

The number of commercial businesses offering these 3-D images purely for recreational purposes has grown, along with online vendors who are offering to turn them into things like pillows or cake toppers.
