U.S., EU moves to extend sanctions on Russia

And turning to Washington.
U.S. President Obama has issued an order to extend a range of sanctions against Russia for its role in the Ukraine Crisis.
Obama first signed an executive order last March... imposing travel bans and asset freezes against officials... identified to be involved in Russia's annexation of Crimea.
In a statement released this week, the White House said it would be extending those sanctions for one more year.
This as the Pentagon reported a massive buildup of some 50-thousand Russian troops along the Ukrainian border.

"We will judge Russia by its actions, not its world and we have already begun this week intensive consultations with our European partners on further sanctions pressure should Russia continue fueling the fire in the east of Ukraine or in other parts of the country fail to implement Minsk or grab more land as we saw in Debaltseve."

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel issued a fresh warning to Russia on Wednesday.
She said any serious violation of the current ceasefire would prompt Europe to impose further sanctions on Moscow for supporting the pro-Russian separatists.
