Many types of bacteria may be dangerous to humans, but it seems that among one another some are generous sorts who are there to lend a helping hand.

Researchers recently discovered that a certain variety is equipped with feeding tubes that can both give and receive key nutrients.

That beneficent microbe is E. coli, which among humans has earned itself a pretty nasty reputation. 

In the bacteria world, however, it turns out that it’s sort of a hero.
