The tech blog 9to5Mac reports that Apple is making special security preparations ahead of its launch of the pricey 18-karat gold Apple Watch; measures may include a battery-recharging safe for overnight storage and a special gold weight scale in case of returns.

Apple stores may be getting special safes to store the 18-karat gold model of the Apple Watch.

The watches, expected to be available in April, are targeted to retail for a base price of $349, but the gold watch could sell for as much as $5,000.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple may be taking cues from jewelry stores to handle the pricey gold watches.

The site says that according to its sources, the custom safes would likely be used to keep demo models and in-stock inventory secure overnight.

They may also include MagSafe chargers to reload the batteries of the housed watches.
