Ecuador: Soldiers sentenced to jail for 2010 coup attempt

As part of moves to reform the police and military and bring them under public control, three soldiers were found guilty of instigating the September 30, 2010 police rebellion, widely viewed as an attempted coup d'etat against the democratically elected government of President Rafael Correa. As part of efforts to reform the security forces, police must take courses on the history of Ecuador, human rights, and the correct use of force in their line of duty.
