Jane Fonda Regrets Anti-troop Image: 'I Made a Huge Mistake'
Jane Fonda says she regrets being 'Hanoi Jane." The 77-year-old actress said she hoped she could have an open conversation with the veterans who have for decades called her a traitor after she condemned the Vietnam War and visited the country in 1972. “It hurts me, and it will to my grave that I made a huge, huge mistake that made a lot of people think I was against the soldiers,” Fonda said about her actions 43 years ago. The "China Syndrome" star made the comments during a Friday speaking engagement in Maryland. About 50 veterans and military supporters protested outside the Weinberg Center for the Arts while Fonda spoke inside, the Frederick News Post reported. Critics dubbed Fonda “Hanoi Jane” in 1972 after she visited the North Vietnam city during the height of the war.
