Most of the people who call Whittier, Alaska home live in the same tower. The building is called the Begich Tower and it reportedly has 14 stories dedicated to living space.
Given the wide territory, you'd expect fewer people in Alaska living over a wider area.
The city of Whittier, however, is an interesting case. Most of the people who call Whittier home live in the same tower. The building is called the Begich Towers Condominiums and it reportedly has 14 stories dedicated not just to living space, but also the town’s municipal needs.
The first floor of the structure is occupied by the post office, grocery store, police department and city offices. The mayor’s office is situated in the basement.
The population of Whittier is somewhere around the 200 mark and of those residents, around three quarters of them live under the same roof of Begich Towers.
