Domestic spending boosts German economic success

The German economy grew by 1.5 percent in 2014, the biggest jump in more than three years boosted by healthy domestic spending and a continuing strong presence in the export markets.

Despite the crisis in Ukraine and a weak eurozone German unemployment remains low, employment at a record high and with money in the pocket the Germans spent.

The Federal Statistical Office marks that German business has been investing heavily in upgrading machinery and equipment.

Household spending is up 1.1 percent.
