Despite not being shown by major theater chains, the controversial film ‘The Interview’ has managed to bring in over 30 million dollars since it’s limited release.

In the wake of threats from hackers, Sony canceled its plan to put the movie in theaters nationwide.

After criticism from several high-profile individuals, including President Obama, they pulled together a last-minute strategy and made it available online and at independent venues.

That last ditch effort paid off, and from December 24th to January 4th ‘The Interview’, according to Sony, earned 31 million dollars in streaming revenue.

Those that first offered it include YouTube, Microsoft Xbox Video Store, and Google Play.

Days later it was added to Apple’s iTunes lineup.

Sony also made ‘The Interview’ available on its own movie watching website.

Add the additional 5 million that has been collected at the box offices of the physical outlets that signed on to show it, and Sony is close to breaking even.

It cost the studio 44 million dollars to make the movie.
