On Sunday, a saltwater crocodile bit a zoo owner’s finger during a demonstration at a zoo in Australia. 58-year-old Ian Jenkins had been feeding the large reptile, Macca, in front of spectators when the crocodile clamped down on his hand and pulled him into a nearby pond.

Jenkins' thumb was bitten right off and he fell during the struggle that ensued. He also suffered a head injury.

In a quote to ABC Radio, his wife Barbara remarked “No grudges against Macca - it's a horrible thing to happen - an absolute warning for Ian. He will be so much more careful I'd imagine.”

Jenkins was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. Barbara believes he misjudged the speed of the reptile, which in turn led to him getting attacked.
