The United Nations says Ebola has now claimed more lives in Sierra Leone than in any other country.

According to the UN' s David Nabarro, the situation is getting worse.

"The increase in transmission in western Sierra Leone is a reflection of the fact that communities there have yet to fully embrace the outbreak and to take action to avoid infection themselves."

The Ebola death toll stands at more than 6,300 in the three worst hit countries in west Africa, but Nabarro says that it's in Sierra Leone's more populous regions, where the virus has been most difficult to contain.

"There are two particularly troublesome areas. One is western Sierra Leone, which is Freetown and Port-Loco particularly, where there is a need for a much more intense response. "
