Rabbinical student stabbed in head, police kill suspect

Police secure a Brooklyn synagogue, after a rabbinical student from Israel was stabbed in the head early Tuesday.

A Rabbi has identified the victim as 22-year-old Levi Rosenblat.... who authorities say, is in stable condition.

Police say they arrived at the Chabad-Lubavitch movement to find a 49-year-old black suspect with this knife in his hand.

NYPD Chief James O'Neil describes the sequence of events:

SOUNDBITE: NYPD CHIEF JAMES O'NEIL, SAYING:

"At one point the male put the knife on the table and the police officer holstered his firearm and approached. At this point, the male subject picked up the knife and advanced at the officer. Back up officers continued to order the male to drop the knife as he advanced on them. After repeated commands, one officer fired a single shot striking the male in the torso."

The suspect was then taken to a hospital, where he died from his wounds.
