Climate change: Small island states could 'disappear', Seychelles president warns

James Michel is the President of the Republic of Seychelles, an archipelago which has suffered greatly from the effects of climate change.
While for some, climate change and global warming remain scientific concepts, its impacts are very real indeed for the Seychelles population. "We are seeing the effects almost daily at home, we see our coast being eroded, we see the migration of fish, we see the bleaching of our corals", James Michel tells FRANCE 24's Mairead Dundas.
He points out how climate change is already threatening the Seychelles' economy. Moreover, with the sea level rising, islands could be submerged and others impossible to inhabit. “If the world doesn’t do anything... then the small island states will disappear”, he warns.
