When there’s a crash in our neighborhoods, many of us worry about our loved ones being involved. A concerned father in North Carolina certainly experienced that feeling of dread and unfortunately his suspicions were confirmed.

Jeffrey Leonard witnessed a horrible crash less a mile away from his home. Fearing the worst, he sent his son, 18-year-old John Leonard, a text asking where he was.

Minutes later, he sent another message that read “John answer me right now. There has been a very serious car wreck below the church... air care is here now... I want to know it isn't you.”

Shortly after that text, he called his son. He didn’t get an answer so he called again and that time a state trooper answered.

Jeff was told his only child had passed away in the wreck. The devastating news came just three days prior to Thanksgiving. John had been sitting in the back seat next to 15-year-old Kayleigh Campbell. She was also killed in the accident.

Her brother, 17-year-old Denzel Caige Campbell was sitting in the front passenger side seat next to the driver, identified as 16-year-old Jordan Deal.

They both survived the crash, but were injured. According to police, Deal had picked up his friends from school and was driving them home when he ran off the road, drove down an embankment and struck trees. The vehicle overturned as a result.
