French MP's to vote on recognising Palestinian state

French members of parliament are debating whether or not to recognise Palestine as a state.
The motion in was brought by the Socialist MP Elisabeth Guigou. It calls on the French government to use recognition as an aid to reaching a definitive resolution to the conflict in the Middle East.
The actual vote will take place on the 2nd of December. It is thought the resolution will be passed, although some right wing MPs are expected to vote against it.
Recognition of Palestine would be non-binding but highly symbolic. It follows recent similar resolutions passed by the British, Irish and Spanish parliaments.
Those in favour say it will help bring peace but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned France against recognising a Palestinian state.
