Lava flow in Hawaii stalls

New footage of the Puna Lava flow from the Kilauea volcano was released on Thursday showing the front of the lava flow remaining stalled.

But officials continue to monitor other potentially active areas where the lava has branched out.

The front has been edging forward for weeks, threatening the village of Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island.

The lava crossed a street on the edge of Pahoa on October 26 where it smothered the road and part of a cemetery while burning tires and vegetation.

Kilauea has erupted continuously from its Pu'u O'o vent since 1983, with its latest lava flow beginning on June 27. The last home destroyed by lava on the Big Island was at the Royal Gardens subdivision in Kalapana in 2012.
