QUETTA: Three polio cases were reported from Balochistan on Saturday increasing the total number of cases in the country to 230 this year, ARY News reports.

According to the provincial Health Department, two cases were reported from Qilla Abdullah whereas another polio case was reported from Quetta.

It should be noted that the attacks on polio workers and the parents refusal to immunize their child are significant contributors of polio cases in the country.

Polio is prevailent in only three countries of the world namely Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. Nigeria is close to eradicating the virus from the country as only three cases were reported this year.

Pakistan’s efforts of eradicating polio has been termed as “insufficient” by the World Health Organization (WHO).
