An officer in West Midlands, UK is left with severe injuries after a drunk driver crashed into his police vehicle. The entire incident, which occurred in April of this year, was caught on camera.

The cop, Arthur Klucznik , had been responding to an emergency call when he was struck by a van being driven by 28-year-old Steven King.

Footage shows his vehicle weaving in and out of lanes on a busy roadway before losing control, spinning and plowing into the police vehicle. Reportedly King was traveling at speeds up to 80 miles per hour and the lights on his van weren’t switched on.

The aftermath of the crash was so bad, Klucznik had to be cut free from the vehicle. Police discovered King’s blood alcohol content was twice the amount as the legal driving limit.

King has since pleaded guilty in court to aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a license or insurance, drunk driving and causing serious injury through dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months behind bars.

Klucznik has still not fully recovered from the ordeal and requires the use of crutches. His physical condition may never be 100 percent again and at this time it’s unclear if he’ll be able to return to his duties as a police officer.
