The Global African - The new anti-racist movement

Each week on “The Global African” host Bill Fletcher, Jr. addresses issues facing Africa and the African Diasporas. Almost three months after African-American teenager Michael Brown was gunned down by police in Ferguson, Missouri, the calls for justice are stronger than ever. Many thought the initial street protests reflecting grass roots anger at the killing would die down, but instead a new generation of anti-racist activists has emerged, with a renewed wave of activism, especially among young women of color. The focus of the movement is on indicting police officer Darren Wilson for the killing, ending police abuse, and the larger issue of systemic racism. In today's program Fletcher speaks to some of the organizers of this movement, interviewing Patrice Cullers of Dignity and Power Now and Black Lives Matter, Ferguson native and activist Alex Templeton founder of Millenial Activists United, and St. Louis community organizar and writer Jamala Rogers. teleSUR
